Aysegül Yücel Gürerk
In 2007 Aysegul led the process for establishing Common Purpose Turkey and since then she has been the Director of Common Purpose Turkey. She is an educator; for the period from 2009 to 2011, she was the Regional Development Manager for Edexcel, an accreditation company under Pearson Education. Prior to that, between 2000 and 2007 she worked at the British Council, first as Istanbul Education Services Manager and then Turkey Exams Services Manager. From 1990 to 2000 she lectured at Ankara Bilkent University and Istanbul Bilgi University respectively on English-Turkish Translation Studies and Communication Skills classes.
Aysegul strongly believes in the concept of Leading Beyond Authority in Leadership. This concept informs the context and purpose of all the trainings she designs and delivers. She observed that many successful leaders learned to lead “in-role” where they had clear authority, budget and accountability. However, once they were faced with a different leadership process and context – leading peers, partners and stakeholders – that the skills that brought them success till then were often, not enough. To operate effectively they needed a different approach to leadership – the ability to Lead Beyond Authority. Aysegul’s passion is to bring together people from different backgrounds and to support them with inspiration, skills and connections to become better leaders at work and in society. Her expertise is in developing the participants’ ability to work together, innovate and to thrive in different cultures because she believes this helps people, organizations and societies to succeed in all areas of life.
